As Director of Accessibility at Marx|Okubo, Sarah uses her meticulous surveying skills and in-depth knowledge of the ADA, FHA, UFAS and state and local code requirements to provide clients clarity about conformity with accessibility requirements. She develops plans of action through opinions of cost, timeline scenarios, drawings, project bidding, and project management. Sarah is responsible for a broad range of accessibility services such ADA Title II Transition Plans for government and higher education entities, design and constructability reviews, work-in-place verification, owner’s representation, construction observation services, repair design, construction administration, and existing building reviews.
While Sarah directs the firm’s in-house accessibility group, she is a technical resource inside and outside of the company. She provides AIA accredited training and workshops to architects, designers, engineers, developers, and contractors. In her role, she has conducted accessibility reviews and surveyed a broad range of project types and facilities including libraries, museums, parks, recreation centers, performance venues, hotels, city and county offices, shopping centers, multifamily properties, senior living facilities, and affordable housing projects for owners, developers, and defendants in complaints in 23 states.
Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in fine art from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and a master’s degree in architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc). She is certified in the built environment through the Accessibility Professionals Association (APAC-BE), is an APA-ADA Specialist, an APA-ADA Transient Lodging Specialist, and is an ICC Certified Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner.
